PICTURESQUE PHULBANI

Phulbani, a sleepy quiet town in the Kandhamal Dist of Odisha is mother nature’s miracle which boasts of astounding rich flora and fauna.

It is named after the lady ‘Phulardei’ who was sacrificed by the local inhabitants as an act of religious ritual to please Mother Earth (MERIA).

Phulbani has an average elevation of 485 metres (1591 feet). The hilly landscape offers an array of spectacular waterfalls, streams and the Salunki river which meanders through the dense forest. Indeed a mesmerizing sight.

One can view the many breathing waterfalls which could be accessed within a radius of 40 km from Phulbani. Prominent waterfalls which must be visited are Katramal Waterfall, Putudi Waterfall, Pakdajhar waterfall and Urmagarh waterfall.

Phulbani can be approached by road from Bhubaneshwar situated at a distance of 211 km and from Berhampur at a distance of 165 km. Nearest railway station is Rairakhol at a distance of 100 km.

Stock up on those instant noodles and crunchy wafers, since one will find restaurants and hotels serving mostly local cuisine. However, if your taste buds crave for something adventurous, a local restaurant is your next pit stop. It’s advisable to check availability of hotels if a night halt is in the cards.

The countryside provides numerous safe nesting places for outlanding enthusiasts. So take that outlander and hit the road.
