HADAGARH RESERVOIR

Vast expanse of calm waters, a reserve forest in the vicinity and the scintillating view of surrounding hills is what Hadagarh reservoir in the Kendujhar or Keonjhar district of the state of Odisha offers.

The sheer expanse of the reservoir in the wilderness bestows a feeling of humility and adds to the enchantment of the place. The view of the silhouetted Baula and Pita Nava hills in an evening sky is nothing short of breathtaking and it engulfs one in a sense of tranquility.

A boat ride on the reservoir and the local boatman will enthral you with the never-ending tales of the historical, cultural and spiritual significance of the reservoir. Some are interesting indeed.

The reservoir, built over Salundi River is surrounded by hills and also shares a boundary with Hadagarh Hasti Reserve Forest which is home to the Leopard, Tiger, Jungle Cat, Langur, Pangolin and Hyena. The sanctuary also provides abode to several species of reptiles and migratory birds.

Scenic beauty of the reservoir and the many streams offer a number of picnic spots which are out there to be explored.

The reservoir can be reached by road from Bhubaneshwar which is at a distance of 160 km. The nearest rail head is Jajpur which is at a distance of 30 kms from Anandapur (biggest town near the reservoir).

Explore this virgin landscape in the lap of mother nature and bedazzled. A good place for nature and wildlife photography.

Although one can visit the reservoir throughout the year, the best time to visit is between the months of March to October. Be self-sustained for food and water since not many avenues exist in this remote location.

Bon Voyage
